French St. Etienne

This is a 1730s - 1740s French St. Etienne Type "D" Trade Fusil in the style of the French Gunsmith "Girard" and has been donated for the 2010 CLA Live Auction. Stocked in American Walnut with French Greyed Iron Mounts. It features a Getz 44" 16 Ga. Oct. Rd. Barrel with a hand filed 18 flat effect. French Style Fusil Lock which as been properly case hardened along with the side nails. The name plate and front sight are of drawn brass. There are many types of Trade Fusils. The most comprehensive listing can be found in T.M. Hamiltons book Colonial Frontier Guns. This type Fusil was a prefered weapon of the Natchez Tribe during the Fur Trade.
